It’s Finally Happening! Our First Cookie Drop Is Almost Here!
Well, here we finally are!
I’m few weeks later than I originally planned, but we’ve made it. The very first Mae Mae’s Morsels cookie drop opens October 21st!

Ordering Opens In:
When I first decided to start this little cookie business about six weeks ago, I knew it was going to be a lot of work. But there’s a big difference between knowing something is going to be a lot of work and actually going through it.
I must say it’s been quite the journey already.
I’ve been figuring out the food licensing process, touring commercial kitchens (because that’s eventually where I’m headed), designing a logo, building a website, setting up social media accounts, starting an email list, and researching packaging and labeling requirements. Oh, the labeling requirements. Who knew there was so much involved in putting a label on a pack of cookies?

That was just the beginning. It’s amazing how many things go into starting a cookie business that you never have to think about when you’re just baking cookies to share with family and friends.
Fortunately, I came into this adventure with a few useful skills besides baking. Back in my checkered past, I started my professional life as a web and graphic designer, which eventually morphed into email design and marketing. And between selling handmade jewelry and African violets online, I’ve also picked up a fair amount of experience with product photography and photo editing.
So, the fortunate thing is that I already had many of the skills I needed to do a lot of this myself.
The unfortunate thing is that I already had many of the skills I needed to do a lot of this myself.
Because here’s the thing about knowing how to do something: it usually means you’re the one who ends up doing it! Usually all by yourself. And even when you know what you’re doing, all those little projects take time.
Take photographing the cookies, for example. That turned into a much bigger undertaking than I expected with setup, shooting, photo selection, editing and actually baking the cookies to photograph. It was one of the reasons my original September 30th cookie drop came and went without an actual cookie drop.
But while I’ve been busy with websites, labels, photographs, and all the behind-the-scenes business stuff, one thing hasn’t stopped.
I’ve been baking. A lot. A lot more than I’ve even done for the holidays.
I’ve made cookies for my dentist’s office, baked treats for my husband’s colleagues, made test batches to get feedback on how to improve and shared cookies whenever I’ve had the opportunity. Part of it has been getting the Mae Mae’s Morsels name out there, and part of it has simply been doing what I love—baking cookies and sharing them with people.

As busy as I’ve been, I certainly haven’t been doing all of this entirely alone. My husband has been working pretty hard behind the scenes doing what he does best. Making connections. He’s been taking cookies to colleagues and acquaintances for taste testing, finding opportunities to get the word out, and connecting with people I’ll hopefully be working with very soon. And of course, continuing in his role as my main cookie reviewer. He’s become my Chief Cookie Communicator for Mae Mae’s Morsels. And considering how many cookies he’s already helped distribute, I think he’s earned the right to a few of his own!
And, of course, I’ve still been experimenting in the test kitchen. I’m already finalizing a new treat that I’m hoping to introduce sometime next month, testing out a treat for a collaboration I’m doing very soon (more on that later), and there are another two or three recipes (or four, or five) in the works that I’m planning to bring out next spring.
Apparently, five cookie flavors just aren’t enough to keep me occupied! But first things first.
After six weeks of planning, designing, photographing, researching, testing, and more than a little baking, Mae Mae’s Morsels is finally ready for its first cookie drop!
Ordering opens October 21st, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally share these cookies with you.
If you’d like to be among the first to hear about upcoming cookie drops, new flavors, and whatever else is happening in Mae Mae’s Test Kitchen, be sure to sign up for Mae Mae’s VIP List.
